Sorry for breaking down the posts, it's just hard to embed so many videos in one post.

Here's another study shows that kids were right:

I am going to responding to Ethan Gilsdorf’s article, Violent Video Games Are Good for You. I find alot of useful information on this article, supporting my research.

**

Ethan Gilsdorf’s, “Violent Video Games Are Good for You”, claims that many people don’t get the positive, invisible impact of video games. Gilsdorf thinks that parents are blind with the actual scenes, and that leads them to an unfair conclusion, which is video games are responsible for minors bad behavior and violence. Many justices are trying to block video games, at least for those under 18 years old. Gilsdorf recalls some sayings that people were believe in, in the late 19th century, “even the widespread use of the telephone was deemed a social threat. The telephone would encourage unhealthy gossip, critics said.” Gilsdrof said. The author supports his claims with hard proof, according to Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl K. Olson, founders of the Center for Mental Health and Media and members of the psychiatry faculty at Harvard Medical School, as video game usage has highly increased in the past two decades, the rate of juvenile crime has actually fallen. Gilsdorf wrote the article in informal language, and some sarcasm in the last few sentences to grab normal people attention.

Reading Response

Michelle Goodman stated some extra good facts about how to do good stuff with video games. Jodi Ropert, worked for Microsoft, and her husband Jacquee established Barefoot Explorer, a company which makes games and applications for Apple's well-known iPhone. In 2009, after spending 10 years with Microsoft, they launched Barefoot Explorer. Their first game Play2Plant aim to teach kids how to take care of earth, and the environment. They promised to plant three trees each time a customer download Plat2Plant. 20,000 trees were planted in the first month.

Several facts come along with the article, FarmVille the popular game, raised $1.5 million for earthquack relief in Haiti.

I went surfing internet looking for a similar points of view, people who agree with the fact that video games are good. Here is a video of Eric Klopfer (Director, Teacher Education Program at MIT).

I like his idea, involving video games at the class, that would be so much fun, and up-to-date learning technic.

When you type "Video games are good", this video tops the list. This guy, Andy, talks about Top 10 Reasons Why Video Games Are Good For You. He has reasonable facts that might convince you if you are not convinced yet. He is funny though.

Saving the best, Daniel Flyd's video summarize the whole idea of the way society deal with video games. Concentrating on the controversial game "Six Days in Fallujah", a group of American soldiers fighting on the second day in Fallujah, Iraq.

He pointed at something really important. Why movie makers have a free access to all kinds of subjects? Violence, sexuality, war, hate, darkside, addiction. Because it is art, ad video games are art too.

My subject reflects my opinion, which is not going with the flow. My professor told me "pick a topic that interests you, that you believe in." I read the whole chapter, several topics, I found my self related to some of them. But when I read the first article talking about how video games affect the new generation negatively, first thing came to my mind was "this is not right, I completely disagree." The authors opinion got me so excited to refute his claims.

To represent my idea clearly I have to do some research to support my claims. The main question that I will be answering on this blog: How Video Games Are Good for Kids.
